Social media etiquette is about understanding that what you post online has real-world consequences, especially when you have a public platform. It means thinking critically before sharing, considering how content might affect others, and recognizing your responsibility to communicate respectfully and accurately. In the case of Kyrie Irving, his decision to share a controversial film on Instagram that contained antisemitic themes sparked widespread backlash. This situation highlights how even indirect promotion of harmful ideas can be interpreted as endorsement, showing that social media etiquette includes being aware of the messages behind what you share not just your intent.

This issue could have been avoided if Irving had taken time to research the content more thoroughly and consider how it might be perceived by diverse audiences. Practicing better judgment such as adding context, clarifying intent, or choosing not to amplify divisive material would have reduced the negative impact. After the backlash, steps toward repairing the situation included issuing apologies, meeting with affected communities, and demonstrating a clearer understanding of why the post was harmful. These actions are important because accountability and education are key parts of rebuilding trust once it has been damaged.

If faced with a similar situation, I would prioritize pausing before posting, verifying the credibility of the content, and considering whether it aligns with respectful and inclusive communication. If a mistake were made, I would respond by acknowledging the harm, apologizing sincerely, and taking steps to learn from the experience. Social media can be a powerful tool, but it requires responsibility, especially when your voice reaches a large audience.

  2. Your slides look great and they kept the same format. Many faced backlashes from this time because they wanted to voice their concerns to support their fanbase. You mentioned about being careful about the different group of people you might be promoting to and how they might take it.

  3. Marquir, I liked how you pointed out that understanding the content you share more and considering how it might be perceived by different diverse audiences is key. Especially when it comes to a well known person like Irving, you have to be mindful because everything you say and do is on display.

  5. this incident is most similar to the incident with kanye west which resulted losing brand deals and endorsements. Although Kyrie argued that it wass something he believed in, his social media behavior resulted in spreading jewish hate. Posting something completely irrelevent to basketball should have been kept private. Even if its something he believes in, why spread that message to the world and young fans.
